Real trading freedom starts with a plan: four simple rules

Real freedom starts with a plan. Not freedom from rules, but freedom from panic, because every bad outcome has already been accounted for. In this article we set out the four-part plan we build with every new member, explain why each rule matters, and show how the plan is what lets you place a trade and then breathe.

The plan

First, a small lot size, so no single trade can hurt you badly. Second, a stop-loss on every trade: your maximum loss, decided upfront, before emotion gets involved. Third, only money you can afford to lose. Never rent, bills or savings you need, because trading with money that matters turns every trade into a crisis.

Fourth, one trade at a time. No chasing after a loss, no doubling up to recover faster, no stacking several positions until you have forgotten how much is at risk. Each of these rules is simple on its own. Together they mean the worst case on any given day is small, known and survivable, which is exactly the point.

Then breathe

When the plan is set, there is nothing to panic about. You know the most you can lose, you know it is money you can spare, and you know the trade will close itself at the stop-loss or the take-profit. That is the freedom: placing a trade and getting on with your day. We help every new member build this plan during onboarding, so if you want to put yours together, start there.

Key takeaways

Common questions

What should a beginner trading plan include?

A small lot size, a stop-loss on every trade, a rule to use only money you can afford to lose, and a one-trade-at-a-time discipline.

How do you stop panicking about open trades?

Decide your maximum loss upfront with a stop-loss, keep lot sizes small and trade with spare money. With those set, the worst case is already handled.
