Gold trades almost around the clock during the week, which is one reason it suits people with busy or unusual schedules. But not every hour is equal. In this article we cover when the gold market is open, which sessions tend to be the busiest and why big news announcements deserve your attention.
XAUUSD trades nearly around the clock from Monday to Friday. The market closes at the weekend, so there is no trading on Saturday or during Sunday daytime. In practice this means you can usually find a time that fits your life, whether that is early morning, a lunch break or late evening after work.
A trade that is open when the market closes on Friday simply carries over to the reopening. That is one more reason every idea we send comes with a stop-loss and a take-profit already defined: your protection is in place whether or not you happen to be watching.
The London and New York sessions are usually the busiest periods for gold. More participants means more movement, which brings more opportunity but also a greater need for a sensible stop-loss. Quieter hours, such as the late US evening, often see smaller moves and wider spreads, so the same trade can behave very differently depending on when it is placed.
Big US announcements, such as interest rate decisions and major economic data, can make gold jump in seconds. We flag the important ones in the community so members are not caught off guard, and we tell you when it is worth paying attention and when it is fine to step away.
