Cover introducing what a gold trade idea from Gold Trade Signals looks likeExample trade idea format showing buy XAUUSD with entry, stop-loss and two take-profit pricesExplanation of each line: buy direction, entry price, stop-loss and take-profit

This is exactly what lands on your phone when we send a trade idea. In this article we walk through an example format for an XAU/USD trade idea and explain what each line means, so the first one you receive makes complete sense before you do anything with it.

The example format

A typical trade idea reads like this: BUY XAUUSD, Entry 2,401.50, Stop-loss 2,393.50, Take-profit 1 2,409.50, Take-profit 2 2,417.50. These prices are an example only and are illustrative, not a live idea. The structure, however, is the same every time. Each idea we send includes a direction, an entry price, a stop-loss and at least one take-profit level, so nothing is left for you to guess.

What each line means

BUY XAUUSD means we expect gold to rise against the US dollar. If the idea said SELL, we would expect it to fall. Entry is the price at which the trade opens. It tells your platform where to get in, rather than buying at whatever price happens to be on screen when you look.

SL and TP stand for stop-loss and take-profit. The stop-loss is where the trade closes automatically to limit your loss if gold moves against you. The take-profit is where it closes to lock in gains if gold reaches the target. Two take-profit levels simply give you a nearer and a further target. Setting all of these when you place the trade means it manages itself afterwards.

Reading your first idea with confidence

Once you know these four parts, every idea we send becomes easy to read in a few seconds. You check the direction, note the entry, and copy the stop-loss and take-profit into MT5. If anything is unclear on your first one, ask in the group or bring it to a live training session and we will go through it with you.

Key takeaways

Common questions

What does BUY XAUUSD mean?

XAUUSD is the gold price quoted in US dollars. BUY means the trade expects gold to rise against the dollar.

Why are there two take-profit levels?

Take-profit 1 is a nearer target and take-profit 2 is a further one. You can close part of the trade at each or choose one target.
