Some moments move gold in seconds, and knowing when they are coming protects you. In this article we explain why major news announcements can cause fast moves, what happens to spreads around those times, and how we post key news times in the group so you know when to be careful or stay out altogether.
Major US announcements, such as interest rate decisions and inflation data, can move gold sharply in seconds. A chart that looked calm for hours can jump a long way in a single candle. If you have a trade open without a stop-loss, or a lot size that is too large, that kind of move can do real damage before you have time to react.
Around big news, the spread (the gap between the buy and sell price) can widen, and prices can jump straight past levels rather than trading through them smoothly. In practice that means your trade might fill at a worse price than expected, or your stop-loss might close at a slightly different level from the one you set. It is a normal feature of fast markets, but it catches beginners off guard.
We post key news times in the group every day so you know when to be careful or stay out. Some members simply avoid opening new trades in the minutes around a release. Others tighten their attention and make sure every open trade has its stop-loss in place. Either way, you are making an informed choice rather than being surprised. The news times are shared in the free community each day.
Major US announcements, particularly interest rate decisions and inflation data, tend to cause the sharpest short-term moves in gold.
Many beginners choose to stay out around big releases. Spreads widen and prices can jump, so at minimum every open trade needs a stop-loss.
